One-off Events

  • Bird watching walk on Black Down NT

    Springtime Birdwatching Walk

    Saturday, 27th April - 08:00 - 10:30hrs

    Spring is in the air, so why not come and join Paul Matson - a keen and experienced birdwatcher - as he leads a 2.5 hour walk through the glorious heathland on Black Down NT.

    Hopefully, you will have the chance to spot Stonechats, Woodlarks and the Dartford Warbler and spring migrants like the Cuckoo, Redstart and various Warblers.

    It will be a slow walk of around 4-5 km with a steepish climb of 200m but after that it should be a pleasant and worthwhile walk.

    No dogs please.

    Cost: £12pp

  • Jewellery Workshop

    Thursday 9th May - 19:00 - 21:00 hrs

    If you're interested in jewellery, then this workshop is one for you!

    Catriona Godson, who has been making jewellery for many years, will lead you through the process of how to create your very own bespoke piece of jewellery, using a variety of colourful semi-precious stones and spacers, it could be a necklace, bracelet or earrings.

    All materials provided for you to take home your unique piece of. jewellery.

    Cost: £15.00 (including materials)

  • Needle Felting a Teddy

    Tuesday 28th May - 10:00 - 16.00 hrs

    If you go down to the Hub today, you're sure of a big surprise! For every participant will make a needle felted Teddy Bear to take home with them.

    Join us for a relaxed and fun day with Hilary Charlesworth. This one day course will run from 10am to 4pm at the Fernhurst Hub and is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience of needle felting. All materials will be supplied.

    Cost: £40.00 (including materials)

  • Improving Your Balance

    Tuesday 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th June 13:30 hrs - 14:30 hrs

    Falls are the most common cause of injury in the over 65s and can have serious consequences. However, much research shows that the risk of a fall can be considerably reduced if you take part in targeted exercise classes and practice what you have learnt.  To help with this, we’re offering a series of 4  short workshops aimed at improving your balance.  You can either do this one-to-one, with times and dates to suit you, or in larger classes (up to 6 people) at the Village Hall.  The classes are very gentle and we'll go at a pace to suit you / the group.  

            Location: Fernhurst Village Hall

    Cost: £40 for four sessions (£35 members of U3A)

  • Tea party to celebrate Fernhurst Hub's 21st Birthday

    While there might not be a Jubilee or Coronation party this year, there's still cause for celebration:

    The Hub is turning 21!

    As a token of our gratitude to our wonderful customers, we're hosting a tea party complete with complimentary tea and freshly baked scones. It's our way of saying thank you for 21 years of support. Everyone is welcome to join us, so come raise a cuppa and toast to many more years of community and connection at The Hub!

  • Learn to sell on Vinted at the Fernhurst Hub

    Learn to sell on Vinted

    Keen to de-clutter your wardrobe and make some money at the same time? Our 1-hour workshop will show you how! Vinted is an online marketplace whereby users can sell and purchase pre-owned clothes and accessories. Unlike other platforms, there are no fees to the seller!

    During this workshop you will learn everything you need to know, so why not come along and give it a go.

    Cost: £10 per person

  • A talk by Dr Katie Armstrong on the menopause

    Demystifying the Menopause

    We are delighted to welcome back Dr Katie Armstrong, a very knowledgeable and sympathetic speaker, GP and founder of Clinic51 in Duncton, just outside Petworth.

    If you would like to gain an understanding of female hormones, perimenopause and menopause, this talk is for you. Katie will explain female hormones and how they change, the symptoms, what to expect and how to prepare, the long term impact on women’s health, treatments, with a focus on what the evidence actually says about HRT as well as take questions from you.

    Tickets cost £12 each with 50% going to Woman’s Aid, Clinic51’s chosen charity.

  • Zero waste workshop at Fernhurst Hub

    Living a Greener Life

    If you would like to live a “greener” life, then this workshop might be for you! Jo Mantini of ‘The Green Boutique’ will be running a 2-hour session where you will have the opportunity to create your own range of eco-friendly, vegan, zero-waste cleaning products.

    The evening will be divided into two parts between an introductory talk and then a workshop to make a laundry sequestrant, laundry softener and dishwasher aid, an all-purpose de-greaser, a limescale remover and dishwasher powder detergent.

  • Repair cafe  at Fernhurst Hub

    Repair Cafe

    The Repair Café will return to the Hub in Autumn.

    Don't throw away your broken toasters, toys or trousers, book them in by clicking the link below and bring them to the Hub to see if our wonderful repairers can restore them to working order with their skill and expertise.

    We’re charging a £2 registration fee to cover costs and hope you will donate to the Hub, if you can, when the item is repaired.

  • Craft session at  the Fernhurst Hub

    Drop-in Craft Afternoon

    Mondays - 13:30 - 15:30hrs

    Would you like some company whilst you knit, crochet, cross stitch, weave or do any other portable craft?

    If you would, come along on a Monday afternoons to meet like minded crafters.

    Buy a cuppa, and perhaps some cake, to enjoy whilst you craft.

    There’s no charge, nor a regular commitment needed, just come along when you can for this self-led group.

  • Fernhurst Hub Reading Circle

    Reading Circle

    Daytime - 1st Tuesday of the month at 14:30hrs

    Evenings - 2nd Wednesday of the month at 19:30hrs

    Have you always meant to read that book? Then why not join one of our friendly, informal Reading Groups.

    In each group, members take it in turns to choose a book for the next meeting.

    Haslemere Book Shop offers a 10% discount on books purchased by members of the Reading Circle.

    Have you been meaning to join a walking group lately? We run a ‘Walk & Talk’ group on the first Thursday of the month, meeting at 09:30 at the Hub.

    It’s free to all and everyone is welcome including dogs!

  • Games afternoon at the Fernhurst Hub

    Come along and join us for a fun and sociable afternoon playing board games and cards. Backgammon. Scrabble, Chess, Bananagrams or enjoy a game of Racing Demons. New ideas welcome. Please bring your favourites too.

    Carers and Friends Monthly Meet-Up

    Friday, 3rd May 14:30 - 16:00hrs

    This monthly meet-up is for unpaid carers and anyone else who would like to benefit from chat and local information. These informal, sociable gatherings take place in a relaxed environment.

    On Friday 3rd May we are joined by Lois Proud from Haslemere Museum. Lois will bring a box of items from WW2 and will give an interesting talk, leaving time for discussion.

    No need to book. New people always welcome.

What’s on for children

  • Music Makers at the Hub

    Tuesdays - 09:30 - 10:00hrs (term time)

    We are delighted to host Naomi Brimacombe, a member of staff at Fernhurst Pre-School and talented musician. She will be running 'Music Makers at the Hub' - fun with music, playing instruments, singing and dancing for children aged between 18 -36 months.

    There is a charge of £2 per child but there is no need to book. And you can stay for coffee and cake after too!

  • Sing & Learn with Jo

    Wednesdays - 09:30 - 10:00hrs (term time)

    This is a fun and lively session for toddlers and pre-schoolers at the Hub, Sing & Learn with experienced children's entertainer, Jo Pandolfi.

    Jo will lead an interactive, lively session of songs, nursery rhymes and fun with puppets and props. A lovely way to socialise your little ones.

    The cost is just £2 per child and, as always, coffee and cake are available for the adults!
